Three. The palest and whitest form is found in the northwest part of its range. The red and gray morphs are widespread and occur together. Gray morph birds are more cold resistant and more common in the northern part of the range. Red morphs, most common in the south, tend to have a higher metabolism and are more likely to succumb to severe weather.
